She Slept

For a time she slept
After the heavens wept
No longer did the rains flow
All that was left was darkness
And the cawing of the crow

Blackest black of night
Mares like a dream in flight
And on she slept
Even knowing
That this wasn't right

Midnight tresses glowed
Raven silk laid
Upon the pillow
Lashes fluttered in fright
Lips murmured
Though held tight
For fear of saying the name
That brought on the rain
And caused so much pain

Velvety tongue encircled
The soundless blight
Sour and rancid
Scrunched her
Pixie nose
As she slept on
Bathed in moonlight
