In Our Madness

In your madness
What were you thinking
As we idled above the cliff
While you blistered your skin
With your cigarette
Threatening to take us
To heaven?

It must be love

In my madness
Blinded by what
I thought was real
Love shuttered me
In a false sense
Of security

In our madness
I stayed too long

You had me for
Another three years
Before I ran
Ran as fast
As my legs
Could take me
When I knew
It was safe

Did you think
I would stay forever?

Reflection In Black

My heart fluttered
When I glimpsed him
Like a passerine
A reflection in black
Darting swiftly by

I desire for time
Rewind and pause
To drink in his form
But it was fleeting
An impressive
Winged creature
In flight

All I have now
Is a memory
That keeps me awake
As I toss
In my isolation
Forever roiling
Forever
In agitation

An Old Wall

I remember the day
Golden I would say
The sun bright
Sparkling pigments
Of light
Dancing in
Midair
In the middle of
A few thousand squares

We waded
Among the rubble
Carefully
Hoping to not stumble
When we discovered
A disintegrating old wall
Surprised
I was thoroughly enthralled

As I stared
At the dilapidation
These words flit
Through my mind
A fanciful tale
Of the colorful kind

'In the middle of
Rough and craggy land
Far from sea and sand
Crumbling stones
Of volcanic rock
Lay strewn about
As if they were knocked

Where once
A great house stood
The best in their
Neck of the woods
Life was happy
Without a care
Resources
They all shared

Then a conquering
People came
Destroyed lives
And brought shame

Now there is nothing left
But a decaying old wall
Where once it stood
So proud and tall
And the people?
Into earth they dissolved
As if they were never
There at all'

Her Caller

She could hear a whisper in the air
A soft lilting call
Her name wafting in the breeze
In the time of dreams
In the season of fall

A feminine sultriness it did contain
As [she] singularly
Repeated her name
A breath, a sigh, a shade
But when she sought
There was nothing at all

The cold chilled her bones
Not of fright
In this old house made of stone
The trees and vines have overgrown
She gazed out into the stygian night
The moon was nowhere in sight
Deserted by the stars
There was not a smidgen of light

She had heard the call many times before
Never knowing what [she] was calling for
The sultry voice
Who whispers in the dead of night
Always her name
Always the same

She wrapped the quilt tighter
Around her small frame
She thought
She would stay here
Just this one night
But little did she know
She was where the caller came
And there
She will forever remain

A Day In My Life 02072015

I've been stretching myself
Mentally
One plus one
Equals four
Just kidding
No, really
Not finding the stimulation
Externally

I broke a hair
Thingamajig today
My last one
Been expecting it
I'd have to say
Can't find the strength
To go buy another
My hair will be wild
And free
For a little while
It's not a bother

Looked at my birth chart
It's been a minute
Since I've done that
Gave myself
A rational chat
Reminding me
Of how complicated
I can be
With my earth and fire
At my core
Air performing
A balancing act
Who knows
What's in store
It's all good
As long
As I stay afloat
Keeping my
Water levels
Beneath my boat

Put my
Little baby birdies
To bed
Happy as clams
Watching
As I pulled the sheet
Over their heads

My turn
To hit the hay
Wished everything
Was A O.K.
Slathered repellent
All over exposed skin
Those mozzie bitches
Followed me in

I Decree

My malaise
Entombed deep in my viscera
The omentum
Holding it captive
Chained
To its lacy net
Unable to break free

Oh, there was a time
Its leaky affliction
Escaped
Its formidable bonds
And a growl rooted in anger
Asphyxiated in my soul
Triumphantly leaped

A roar of unmeasurable magnitude
Barreled into space
The gods willingly devoured my rage
Took gleeful delight
And granted an ache

That blazed through
The midnight blackness

The music twinkling
Lovingly in my ears
As the stars burst
Through my fears

With the rising of the sun

I was free

But time again will surely show
When passions shall overcome
And please the gods once more

Their burning child shall glow

I decree

I Crossed The Sea

I crossed the sea
In search
And landed
Where the
Sun burst

Where squid sizzled
And chicken fried
Amidst treasures
That caught my eye

Along the way
I beheld the seventh son
Of the seventh son

And paid my dues
To my wi-fi blues

I crossed the sea
Once again
At home at last
With my
Camomile friend

Lovely Walls

Staring into the whites
Of blank walls
Overwhelmed by the emptiness
Of it all

No art or culture
Does it grace
Just an empty
Never ending space

My nails cut
Into my hand
Blood dripping
As I ran

In the wheel
Of todays
No turning back
To yesterdays

I leapt into space
The blank wall
With no face

Blood dripping
From shallow wounds
I hit that void
A raging monsoon

Blood splattered
A blazing red
Those lovely walls
Can now be read

Nowhere Where It Ought

I had a thought earlier today
Was it important?
Who can say?

It flew to
Xanadu
Or Timbuktu
Or maybe
To you know who

'He who shall not be named'

It zipped
Out of my head
Possibly plucked
Instead

I've thumbed
Through my files
Of imagined notions
Even my memorized
Potions

But no
Nada
Zip

The thought
That I thought
Is nowhere
Where it ought

So I'll sit
For a while
In my vagabond style
And hope that
My thought
Will come back
As I've labored
And wrought

Right here
In my pen
To bring me
A smile again
