Sharp Sting

She plunged
Feet first
In shallow waters
Found the current
Light and swift

She laughed
Delightedly
As she frolicked
In its clear
Silvery haze

Humming
A merry tune
And skipping
Haphazardly
Toes digging
In golden
Fine sand

Aimlessly
Navigating
Its brightly
Shaded maze

On she romped
Boisterously
Blind to the
Murky waters ahead

When a sudden
Pain grabbed her
Legs screaming
In sad regret

She collapsed
Not far from
The tombolo
Her arms held out
In belief

A final
Stinging spasm
To remind her
The lesson
Lest she forget

To keep
Her eyes open
For not only
In these waters
Are sharks King
Many others too,
Though common
And quotidian,
Have a sharp sting
