Whenever I read these words,
"I will allow only my lord to possess my sacred lotus pond, and every night you can make blossom in me flowers of fire." - Huang O (1498- 1569) To the tune Soaring Clouds,
I feel and see images of heat, desire and passion. I wish I could write like that.

Broken Dolls
I stare at my broken dolls
That have been saved for me
Kept in a back room
With the dirty laundry
Are these fragmented figures
Representative of me?
Chipped, cracked
Missing a limb or two
They frighten me
Wouldn't they frighten you too?
I played with them
When I was three or four
I loved them to death
But that was before
I got more
I look into their faded eyes
Once bright and clear
Now dull and lackluster
They were at one time so dear
I think I'm broken
As broken as my dolls
Lacking all life
No will at all
To battle any strife
I see the cracks and fissures
Of my soul
It torments me
I don't want to let it be
What's a body to do?
Do I have any glue?

In a Land of Heat and Spice
In a land of
Spices
I paid a visit
One summer
I was not
Prepared
For the heat
And culture
My face
Was a detriment
At first
I didn't understand
I was mistaken
For someone
From a neighboring
Land
Eyes, eyes, eyes
Stared at me
Everywhere I went
Words I did not know
Were spoken to me
Monsoon rain
Took me by surprise
I was told it came early
This season
While I ran for cover
The shower ceased
Then blue skies
My clothes
My shoes
Were all wrong
You can not walk
On gravel filled streets
In four inch heels
For long
And absolutely
No make-up
In that humidity
It melts
Right off your face
I witnessed it myself
In incredulity
Shopping in the
Bazaar
Was a whole new experience
Color and all that glitters
Is everywhere
And the vendors
They expect for you
To argue
Over the price of a shoe
They have temples galore
Beautiful and historic
Some gold trimmed
And classy
And some bold
And brassy
But one stands out
In my memory
For I made a woman cry
In a temple of marble and gold
She was raising her head
From the floor
As the cross breeze
Blew my skirt
Above my knees
While I was walking by
Taking pictures as a tourist would
Right in front of her eyes
She wailed in despair
As I struggled
With my clothing
I decided to
Make my escape
And fast
Before I get into
An even bigger scrape
I find it amusing
Now
But back then
I was full of misgivings
There is more to my
Adventure
In the land of heat
And spice
But I can not
Tell it all in
One slice.

Alone Again
Alone on my bed
Once again
I yearn for
Yesterday
To never end
I heard you
As you shut
The front door
Memories
Sweet memories
Of the night before
Flit through my mind
Oh how I wish
You would come back
To spend more time
My lips
Already miss
Your ardent kiss
It sparks
A flame
Deep in my core
Oh how I long for you
To walk through
My front door.

Driving (Poets of G+ - Prompt of the Week)
*Driving* *alone*
In the summer's sweltering heat
From golden California
Through the Lone Star state
Of *Texas*
To my destination
The city that never sleeps
*New York*
My mind drifts
Daydreaming
Of my *glory* days
And
*Dancing*
Without a care
At all hours
My hands
Gripping the steering wheel
Of my sunset gold filly
As I watch the *moonlight*
*Sparkle* it's reflection
On the hood
*Shining*
Like a beacon
In the night
I make a wish
As my eyes
Lit upon
A star
That *fell*
From the
Heavens above
Arcing downwards
Performing it's final
Swan dive
Below

Waiting
To have to wait is torture enough
But to have to wait and be disappointed
Is misery.

Sunday Afternoon Nap
Yesterday I dreamt of you
In a mansion of silver lining
You were breathtaking
Happy, oh so very happy
Running down the stairs
In your beautiful dress
Of red and gold
I stood at the bottom
Feeling human and old
Looking up at your
Youthful, glowing face
The wrinkles and age spots
My dream has erased
Your short wavy locks
Bouncing at each step
The years gone by
My mind still recollects
Laughter from you lips
Excitement in your voice
With your fingertips
You reached out
To urge me to join you
And then I woke up...

Adverse Reaction
She looks at me with doubt
Or is it envy?
I hear it in her voice
Instead of happiness
As her choice
I sense her negativity

Bittersweet
This great group of amazing people have really helped me to keep on track with my fitness schedule. I thank my sister for pushing me to start working out with her and I've met this awesome group along the way. Our age ranges from the twenties to the fifties I believe but working out with these wonderful instructors (Leslie M., Dom and Leslie H.) are our common bond. This week is bittersweet for us. Our gym has decided to stop the dance type of workouts and unfortunately some of us have gone in different directions. Most of us though have signed up with the same gym so I'll be happy to see some familiar faces at our new facility. These pictures were taken after our last classes of U-Jam and Zumba this week. I will miss those who have gone on to other gyms but hope we'll still see each other around town.

She Watched
Through eyes
Blurred by tears
She watched
Crouched in hiding
Unable to breathe
In fear
What has become
Of me she whispered
Her lips trembling
As she fought for control
She watched
From her secret place
Surrounded by four doors
What will become
Of me she whispered
Anger roiling
Churning
Rising from the depths
Her stability
Slipping
Cracking
Snapping
Unable to think
As she watched
Her heart
Tearing in two
Her love
Her life
Holding
Another woman
Who loved him too

Crimson Fire
An old man
In a land of giants
Faraway
Where they speak a language
That I can not say
Back: broad and strong
Salt and pepper head
Lowered, engrossed
Tools carefully spread
Hands busily digging
His wife of thirty years
In the kitchen diligently cooking
Our lunch
Rose bushes in pots
Aligned like soldiers
Some pink, some white
One crimson fire
The old man looked up
Peered intently at me
His blue eyes
Fixed piercingly
"Which do you like?"
As he gestured to the roses
Red, I falteringly pointed
He nodded as he rose
From bended knees
And continued his work
After
Wrapping a blanket around me
A few years later
Long after I'd gone
He and his wife with
Their wandering son
Looked out of their kitchen window
At his prized blossoms
They turned to their youngest
Their expression solemn
"Allene looks beautiful today."
Their nomadic son turned away
With not a thing to say

True story. ;)

Returning
Through the open window
A soft warm breeze
Gently
Lifted my hair
The haunting melody
Of the Adhan
Drifting to my ears
I lay
On a divan
Supine
In repose
One arm flung
Overhead
Fingers fidgeting
With the fringe
Of a pillow
As I held back tears
I peeked
At the man
Who held my heart
Feet standing firmly
Shoulder width apart
Looking out
At the land
He loves
Contemplating
Returning
In a few long years

As The Lights Fell (Google+ Prompt of the Week)
We marveled as the lights fell
The soft golden blush of the setting sun
Receding away as twilight made itself known
But the dark of night will soon have it on the run
With its cloak of glittering stars
And the ethereal glow of the moon goddess
As she makes her journey from afar
Her cool comforting gaze upon us
As we prepare to slumber
And drift into the world of nothingness
