My Boys

My two boys
The loves of my life
They fill me joy
That no mere words
Can explain

One is graduating
High school tomorrow
There is no room for
A smidgen of sorrow

The other
Next week
From eight grade

The stretch marks
That will never fade
On skin
Once smooth and supple
Doesn't bother me
I wear them with pride
As proof of the gifts
God has blessed me.

Bittersweet

This great group of amazing people have really helped me to keep on track with my fitness schedule.  I thank my sister for pushing me to start working out with her and I've met this awesome group along the way.  Our age ranges from the twenties to the fifties I believe but working out with these wonderful instructors (Leslie M., Dom and Leslie H.) are our common bond.  This week is bittersweet for us.  Our gym has decided to stop the dance type of workouts and unfortunately some of us have gone in different directions.  Most of us though have signed up with the same gym so I'll be happy to see some familiar faces at our new facility.  These pictures were taken after our last classes of U-Jam and Zumba this week.  I will miss those who have gone on to other gyms but hope we'll still see each other around town.

My Fun & Exciting Weekend With LMC

I had a very interesting weekend this weekend.  I had expected my Easter weekend to be a quiet and mellow affair but my instructor, Leslie, had other plans.  Let me give you some background.  I workout out three times a week at a gym but I only take the dance workout classes (Zumba, Ujam, etc...) because it's what I enjoy.  One of my favorite teachers is a professionally trained dancer as well as a musician and singer.  I think she's awesome!  Well last Wednesday she asked me, my sister and another student of hers from a different gym to dance with her for an Easter gig she was offered at the last minute.  She had one day (Thursday) to make up the choreography, one night (Friday) to teach it to us and then rehearsal with the other performers and rapper on Saturday.  Sunday morning we performed.  We joked around on Friday night that we were the 'Last Minute Crew' (LMC)  It was an amazing experience.  I was terrified but got through it and enjoyed it immensely   If she were to ask me again I would definitely say yes!  But even if she doesn't it was an experience I'll look back on with a smile on my face.

Vlogs

My daughter and I had a short discussion last night regarding vloggers.  It was a very brief discussion consisting of short precise text messages expressing her incomprehension of why vloggers vlog.  Most of the vlogs she has watched were boring in her opinion and hard to get through but she does enjoy the ones with comical skits.  It got me thinking...I've read a few articles from writers of the opinion that vloggers just want their five minutes of fame or a step up the ladder to fame and fortune.  Whatever the reasons...I think it's similar to why people blog just a bit more obvious, they are putting their face out there for the whole world to see.  Maybe they are expressing themselves in the only way they know how.  Maybe they feel more comfortable speaking in front of a camera while I for instance feel better writing or typing my feelings, opinions, etc... down on paper or my blog site.  Do I care if anyone reads it?  Not really...it's just my thoughts and experiences that I need to put somewhere.  I have had tons of journals over the years and tucked in to those journals are pieces of scratch paper, napkins, whatever I could get my hands on at the time to jot down thoughts, poems or ideas.  Most of them I've lost or burned never to be seen again, especially my racier ones.  When I die I don't need evidence for my children or my grandchildren to find and read just how passionate their mother or grandmother used to be, not that it would make any difference, I'd be dead.  I've kept my online blogs fairly tame.  Nothing to read years later and blush about.  Although if my children were to ever get their sticky little fingers on my journals and read them I'm sure they would just laugh and think to themselves..."That's our Mommy!"

A Message To Me

The people have caught the hate frenzy!  The most important thing is to not care what people around you are doing and do what only you can control.  I can control myself.  I’m not going to worry about the ignorance of people and continue to educate myself, to stay upbeat because I have so much to look forward to and look the haters in their eyes and smile because at the end of the day feeling myself smile makes me happy.

Amazed and Humbled

As I read works from writers past and present, I am always amazed and humbled by their brilliance and artistry.  As I read I can see the images floating in my mind, as if through a magical mist.  I could never hope to reach their level of art but as long as I have fingers to write I will keep trying even if in vain.

Questions I Ask Myself

Why is it so hard for me
To show real emotion?
Am I as they say
Cold and brittle like ice?
Or is it something else
Something I just can’t see?
I am constantly asked if there is anything wrong
And for the life of me
I don’t know how to answer
Because in my head I’m humming a song
Is it my face?
Is it always frowning?
Am I not smiling enough?
My smiles are genuine
That I know
If I wasn’t happy
I think it would show
Maybe I’m quirky
And hard to read?
Most of the time I feel quite perky
So I don’t know
Why people always tell me
To tell them how I really am
When deep inside me
I’m as happy as a clam.
