She Watched

Through eyes
Blurred by tears
She watched

Crouched in hiding
Unable to breathe
In fear

What has become
Of me she whispered

Her lips trembling
As she fought for control
She watched
From her secret place
Surrounded by four doors

What will become
Of me she whispered

Anger roiling
Churning
Rising from the depths
Her stability
Slipping
Cracking
Snapping

Unable to think
As she watched
Her heart
Tearing in two
Her love
Her life
Holding
Another woman
Who loved him too

Crimson Fire

An old man
In a land of giants
Faraway
Where they speak a language
That I can not say

Back: broad and strong
Salt and pepper head
Lowered, engrossed
Tools carefully spread
Hands busily digging
His wife of thirty years
In the kitchen diligently cooking

Our lunch

Rose bushes in pots
Aligned like soldiers
Some pink, some white
One crimson fire

The old man looked up
Peered intently at me
His blue eyes
Fixed piercingly

"Which do you like?"
As he gestured to the roses
Red, I falteringly pointed
He nodded as he rose
From bended knees
And continued his work
After
Wrapping a blanket around me

A few years later
Long after I'd gone
He and his wife with
Their wandering son
Looked out of their kitchen window
At his prized blossoms
They turned to their youngest
Their expression solemn

"Allene looks beautiful today."

Their nomadic son turned away
With not a thing to say

True story. ;)

Returning

Through the open window
A soft warm breeze
Gently
Lifted my hair
The haunting melody
Of the Adhan
Drifting to my ears

I lay
On a divan
Supine
In repose
One arm flung
Overhead
Fingers fidgeting
With the fringe
Of a pillow

As I held back tears

I peeked
At the man
Who held my heart
Feet standing firmly
Shoulder width apart
Looking out
At the land
He loves
Contemplating
Returning
In a few long years

As The Lights Fell (Google+ Prompt of the Week)

We marveled as the lights fell
The soft golden blush of the setting sun
Receding away as twilight made itself known
But the dark of night will soon have it on the run
With its cloak of glittering stars
And the ethereal glow of the moon goddess
As she makes her journey from afar
Her cool comforting gaze upon us
As we prepare to slumber
And drift into the world of nothingness

Tilted Sly

She walks on billowy white clouds
With flowers in her hair
A smile painted on dark red lips
Ambling without a care

Thoughts of the future
Brings a sparkle to her eye
Her impish face can't hide
The glossed lips, tilted sly

Good things will come to pass
She can feel it in her bones
The past is history
The screams and hurtled stones

The glow of radiant happiness
Surrounds her
A glistening protective shield
An unpenetrable barrier

She glides gracefully away
Lost in her musings
As covetous eyes follow
Rapacious and yearning

She continues her journey
With a devilish sparkle in her eye
A smile painted on her dark red lips
Shiny and glossed, tilted sly

Everyday Affairs

The tediousness
Of everyday affairs
The boredom kills me

I Have Nothing

I have nothing
Nothing to say to you
Thoughts of you
Bring emptiness
A vast vacuum
Of hollowness

Can this be all that is left
Of the passion
I once felt?
An all consuming
Mind numbing ardor
That blinded me
From complete candor

Was it a waste?
Of time, of energy
Of vitality?

Your arrogance
I mistook for confidence
But it was selfishness
Self-importance
And conceitedness

My eyes unseeing
Has opened
What once was concealed
Has been revealed
The verity of your soul
Has leaked its hideous goo
Your false and duplicitous nature
Will take its toll
And one day you will rue

Mornings and Night. (Haikus)

Mornings are wretched
When you have to go to work
I hunger for sleep

Mornings are lovely
When you are on holiday
I crave for breakfast

The night is mystic
It cloaks its secrets in ink
Where ever you are

Does He Know?

I brush my fingers
Through midnight coils
Long ebony lashes
Flutters
Does he know?

I tip toe daintily
Up and down
Hills and valleys
To velvet moans
Does he know?

Astride my heart's desire
I gallop towards a wanton bliss
Only he can inflict
Does he know?

With every tumultuous sway
Beads transudes
From a porous shell
Does he know?

Fires burn from within
Ignited with one scorching glance
One heated touch
One sultry kiss
Does he know?

To Begin Again

In an old attic
I explored
Moldy, cracked boxes and steamer trunks
Littered the floor

Clothes; ancient, moth-eaten and musty
Dust bunnies, centuries old
Hiding in every nook and cranny
Discarded, scattered and jumbled here and there
Were odds and ends, knick knacks, thing-of-a-jigs
It made me wonder
If I touch them, will the original owners although long gone care?

I rifled
And sorted
Investigated
And recorded

I was beside myself
With awe and pleasure
And pleasure and awe
Amazed at all the treasure
My two not so young eyes saw
Through the dim and faded light
I lit upon an old book or maybe a journal
Where a person of long ago might write
Sitting innocently on an old corner desk
As if waiting
Waiting patiently for me
For me to come a calling

My fingers trembled and shook
As I reached out for the book
I caressed its worn leather binding
Traced the gold and intricate carving
I opened the cover
To my delight
There was a title written there
'To Begin Again' it said
But no author anywhere

I turned the page
It was blank
I flipped to the next few
And my heart sank
The pages were empty

Disappointed I sat
I sat staring at the title
Is that all there is to that?
Finally as the light dimmed lower
I stood up and made my way
To the attic ladder
As I climbed down with book in hand
I thought to myself
Maybe this was a sign
Maybe it's my time
To start writing in this book
To give my life another look
And begin again.

My Fun & Exciting Weekend With LMC

I had a very interesting weekend this weekend.  I had expected my Easter weekend to be a quiet and mellow affair but my instructor, Leslie, had other plans.  Let me give you some background.  I workout out three times a week at a gym but I only take the dance workout classes (Zumba, Ujam, etc...) because it's what I enjoy.  One of my favorite teachers is a professionally trained dancer as well as a musician and singer.  I think she's awesome!  Well last Wednesday she asked me, my sister and another student of hers from a different gym to dance with her for an Easter gig she was offered at the last minute.  She had one day (Thursday) to make up the choreography, one night (Friday) to teach it to us and then rehearsal with the other performers and rapper on Saturday.  Sunday morning we performed.  We joked around on Friday night that we were the 'Last Minute Crew' (LMC)  It was an amazing experience.  I was terrified but got through it and enjoyed it immensely   If she were to ask me again I would definitely say yes!  But even if she doesn't it was an experience I'll look back on with a smile on my face.

Mole Removal Experiment - Part 3

I know it's been a while since I've updated you on my experiment. Well the reasons are:

1. I haven't been consistent because honestly I got tired of smelling vinegar.

2. I ran out of Bandaids.

3. I truly believe I have a supermole on my hands. I swear it's impervious to bullets, speeding trains and can probably leap over tall buildings in a single bound. Seriously!

But all is not lost! I can say that I have seen progress. My mole has flattened somewhat, albeit slightly slanted but flattened nonetheless! This weekend I will arm myself with fresh supplies and I will continue my ongoing saga of 'Allene vs Supermole'! Fear not! I will succeed!

Broken Bones

With broken bones
I stand
Limp, ragged
Body
Coursing with pain

Needles and pins
Knives and swords
Protruding
From the cracked shell
Of my form

I stagger
Crooked steps
One more painful
Than the other

Where do I go?
To hide and mend
To crawl and cower
To cry and lament
To heal and recover?

I stand
I stagger
Towards the setting sun
Limp and ragged
Taking crooked
And broken steps
One more painful
Than the other.

The Scourge (Poets of G+ Prompt of the Week - Molotov Cocktail)

***Last night I made changes to this piece because I was so not happy with it.  I can't make the change on G+ because it would disqualify me but I'm making the change here.  The rhythm was off and it was driving me crazy.  I think now the rhythm is better and the ending doesn't seem as chopped off as before.  I hope you agree.***

The Scourge

The dark scourge's heart thumps
In a dark recess of my town
Da dump da dump

Its roots buried deep
Opaque tentacles slithers silently
From street to street
Searching, searching
Skulking, sneaking
Always creeping
For its next prey

It is ravenous
I can sense its hunger
The stomach cavernous
It howls in desperation
It hasn't fed in months
Forced in isolation

Its prey has evolved
Smarter, quicker
More resolved

Out of reach
From its inviting talons
Talons, poison-tipped each

Fear oozes
From its pores
For death will soon be
Knocking down its door

I walk through the silent street
I know where the heart lays
I've heard it beat
Thumping, humping
Seducing, inviting

In my left hand
My weapon of choice
I will take my stand
A bottle of premium burns the best
I always say
In my right, my street chrome zippo
To help light my way

My fuel soaked rag, lit
I stare at my target
The time has come to end it!
To burn, burn, burn it!

Flames lick at my skin
As I ready my stance
My pitch is true
The blaze dance

It meets its mark
The thing screeches and shrieks
While I watch in the dark

Its death is final
We can now and forever breathe
And ease our vigil
But I stand alert

You never know
What is buried
Deep down in the dirt.

I Dance Through The Green

The prompt for the week in the Google+ community I'm in (Poets of G+) was this picture.  These are the words that came to mind.  Not quite happy with it but that is life.
