Extra Fine Blue

I've disappeared
Misty vapors
Into my day to day
Existence

Sporadically
Flickering
Towards reality

Animated

My mind
A blank canvas
With knotted
Imperfections
Occasionally
Painted with
Extra fine blue
0.38

Sometimes
With the light fingers
Of consciousness
But there are times
When the hand
Is heavy with lunacy
Piercing through
Gut wrenching
Thoughts

Wavering
On the line
Between
Inner and outer
Characters

Internally

Craving solitude

Outwardly

An outgoing
Life force

Conflicted

I am
Quite comfortable
In my own skin

But is my skin
Comfortable with me?

The Tsinilas

The motorbikes go
Vrrrrm, vrrrrrmm, vrrrrrrmmm
Behind me, loud fumes
Reach my nostrils, my ears
The constant blaring
Of horns, so normal
Oh so normal here
Like the sun, the sweat
The tsinilas

1 AM Run

Fluorescent light
My reassurance
Shines down on me
Through leaves
Disgracefully
Flirting
With the bats
That flit
Above my head

I'm fascinated
By what I can't see

I've missed the bus
I wait to catch
The 1 am run
To the badlands
While
A love song plays
In the background

That's all they ever
Play here

Exhausted
And aching
I fantasize of
My cold bed
Instead yellow
Plastic chairs
Cut into my ribs
My bony wrist
Pretending
To be a pillow

I hear my blood
Pumping loudly in my ears

I'm surrounded
By curiosity
I can see
The question marks
In bright neon
Blinking on and off
On their foreheads

Watching me
As I
Watch them

Raspberries and Drupes

She made her way
Unseen
Plain vanilla
On the rockiest road
Chocolate chips
Staring in the distance
At the sherbet sky
Shuffling steps
Unrehearsed
Heel toeing their way
Through marshy pitfalls
And nutty aggravations
Her peach tinted lips
Mouthing words
To a song
Unheard
Inside
Unknown
She glittered
With swirls
Of raspberries
And drupes

Gnarled

Limbs stretched wide
Shielding and protecting
I sit beneath
Happily content
Knowing
You are there

The News

The dark
Seductively called her name
She welcomed its comfort
With opened arms

He's dead

In the cold
Dank blackness
Of her mind
The news
Collapsed
Like a heavy stone
Spiraling down
Into grey gloppy matter
Leaving both
The sensations
Of devastation
And elation

She huddled
Fetal position
Face buried amid
Elbows and knees

Hands spotless
She was pleased

Wild eyes
Staring through
Inky skies
Sparkled with
Starry hope

She didn't have
To tie the rope

Between them
The dropped shoe
They both knew
Vengeance
Was due

The corners
Of her bow shaped lips
Twitched
Into a feral grin

Tonight
She will celebrate
With her old friends
Tonic and Gin

He's dead

Moringa Oleifera

This is the moringa oleifera or what the locals in PI call kamunggay or malunggay.  Most everyone grows this wonderful tree in their yard. Though delicate and fragile looking they are packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, it's considered a superfood.  They add the tiny green leaves to soups, omelettes, spaghetti as well as other dishes.  They are delicious!  The pods that grow from the trees are also edible, the first year's growth but subsequent growths become bitter over time.  I haven't had the pleasure of trying the pods yet but I will eventually.  Yummy stuff!

Island Sunset

I kneel
In reverence
Savoring the last
Of your golden touch
Before the moon
Caresses me
With her
Incandescence

Native Tongue

They spoke to me
In their native tongue
Of the birds
And all of nature
